Yes, it should be that easy. You will just need to configure the device to your network. I use the same thing for my PC in the garage, has been trouble free so far.

The instructions specifically said the Ethernet jack was only used for setup when wireless setup doesn't work for some reason or as a bridge for a remote network device. Short answer is yes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The setup is easy. You want to setup the extender half way between the router and PS4. Go through the setup process for the extender. Once setup then you will need to go into the network settings of your PS4 and connect to the extender. If your SSID were "GGWoods" (for example) then the extender name will be "GGWoods_EXT". Just connect to the SSID with the EXT and enter the password and thats it. There is no need to use an ethernet cable.
