Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Neither. The extender needs to have a decent signal, or it won't be able to communicate properly to your router. But if it's adjacent to the router, they're both covering the same area. Place it where the signal is OK, between your router and the area you want to get better signal to. Manufacturer suggests that you get "three bars" of signal (from your router) at your extender location (based on a smart phone as a signal meter).
