What use is the ethernet port ? null

I needed a cat 5 connection behind my TV to connect a Sony PlayStation for internet access. My only option would be to run a cable from one end of the house to the other. My TV and router are on opposite sides of the house. I had this running in 10 minutes. Very easy to set up. The extender wirelessly connects to my router and has a wired connection to my PlayStation.
