“Is this just a wifi extender or can it be used for wifi? IE I am looking to buy something so I do not have to pay Xinity a rental price every month on a gateway to connect to the internet. These look the same as the Xfinity gateway.”

Not a gateway, just a very good wireless router system
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can use this as the entire Wi-Fi system. How we, you’ll need a separate cable modem. I suggest the Arris SB8200. With these two items, you can return the Xfinity equipment and hook the Coax cable directly to the modem. You may need to call Xfinity to Activate your new modem when you first install it.
