Yes, internalIy connected still talk to each other. IE: you have external storage/server with movies, you can stream to your TV via mesh.

You need to have internet signal coming into the unit in order for it to work and then distribute the signal to your devices. If the internet is not available locally, then no device is going to help distribute the signal
