“I have a lan with an Apple Airport hardwired into the middle of it that backs up our Macs. Can I add an ax6000 to the network for the dead areas in our house like the basement and 2nd floor? Can I hang it off of the Airport?”

Hi. You can set up the Linksys - Max-Stream AX6000 Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router in Bridge Mode so you can still use your modem/router or gateway device. However, some features will be disabled on Bridge Mode. These include Parental Controls, Device Prioritization, custom internal IP addresses, and other advanced features.
