• the router is for wireless internet. you shouldn't have to plug your laptop in

• I wouldn't. I'd use the wireless function. Otherwise, your only alternative is to run cable to the router.

• You don't plug router into the laptop, you plug it into the modem through Ethernet connection. The laptop is wireless (unless super old) so it should pick my the signal of you wireless network, that is the whole reason for a wireless router, to eliminate the cables.

• You would have to use an ethernet cable for a hardwire connection. However, unit has wireless capabilities so all you need to do is access the wireless network via your laptop.
