“If I plug this into my desktop pc will it now be connected to wifi or do I need anything additional to be able to connect wirelessly? My router is located in an area we don't want the computer and aren't trying to run a cord all the way through the house!”

It should connect to your router. Just make sure you know the password to connect to the router. If you do not have a password protected wireless network, I suggest you do. Otherwise anyone can connect to your router and that can reduce your internet speeds and make your pc and devices vulnerable to danger.
