I'm not sure what you mean by "network" provider, but you do have to have an internet connection or wireless signal. For example, I have spectrum as my internet provider and a wireless router that sends out a signal for wireless connection. My router signal has a password. When I plugged the LINKSYS WUSB6100M AC600 ADAPTER into the computer, It will come up in as the USB device connector. I would select that in the "wireless network connection" options and enter our router password. This works great and It was very easy to install. But...there is one issue that you may need to address ... I run Windows 7 and the computer I used this with had a built in wireless adapter card that has failed. I did not take that card out, and had to go into device manager and disable the onboard card because even though it was not picking up the wireless network, the COMPUTER still recognized that card as the network/router connector. Once I disabled that, the Linksys adapter immediately became the recognized wireless adapter. I seem to get a stronger connection with this adapter than I did that built in card (more bars) for some reason. I hope this helps you. I'm very happy with the purchase AND the help I received from the staff at the local Best Buy in Waco Texas.
