I connected one pod to my router (Infinite internet) physically. Using the app you can set up an acct for your pods and connect directly to the pod for enhanced connection. I can still use my router connection but the pod makes the connection stronger so I use that as my main connection. Hope that helps?! I don't remember if I had the option of VPN but there is a guest option.
