When I looked into it years ago everything I read said the phones were useless except on the greatcall network They SAY they are unlocked but they are NOT except for their network I ended up getting a similar but not quite as easy flipphone that TMobile used to sell (Because I am grandfathered in to a plan where I add $10 a year and it extends my minutes another year) And I might use 50 minutes a year as it stays off in my car except when I use it as a walkman but even then it requires headphones to be plugged in to get the speaker to work- STUPID but it is what it is- so I have to carry headphones around my neck that I never use except to plug into the phone for the radio Mine died after 5-6 years but I had bought another identical used one and I am using it now after swapping the sim- alcatel 4044w I think I paid $40 for the first one with box and $20 for the 2nd one used with no box off ebay (including shipping) Many alcatel are truly unlocked but not all are so be sure- I am unsure if mine is unlocked or locked to tmobile (I knew I wanted unlocked or tmobile only)
