“I looked at the app notification when I saw the text message, dial pad, doesn't brighten up. I tried to turn them off but it didn't work. I saw that the contact is disabled on the app notification. What do I do? I have got a jitterbug 3 smartphone.”

Great question! You are able to manage your lock screen options in settings. You just go to phone settings>android settings>notifications>messaging make sure you do not have the block all option setup and you should be able to receive alerts once a new message comes in on you lock screen even if it is in sleep mode.
