There are different plans to choose from. Text email and multiple apps are available and so easy to open and use.

The Jitterbug Smart2 is an Android v7.0 and you do need to have a texting plan to use text messaging. For email, you would need a rate plan or a wi-fi connection and while some downloaded applications may work without a plan, some could require a wi-fi connection.
