Hello Janie, thanks for the question. Like other smartphones, the Jitterbug Smart3 does have the option to type a text message or to speak the message. When you start a text message the keyboard will pop up at the bottom, and you can begin typing. Lively has several support tools available for the Smart3, besides the easy to use how to guide (see page 74 for the Text Message section), there are also several how to videos and cards on the “Support” page of our website.

When you tap it, a keyboard should pop up. If this does not answer your question, you can open the "Accessibility Feature." You may find it useful.
