Will it hold an ipad air 2? null

No. The magnets are not strong enough. The windshield mount might be though.

I tried this holder with an Iphone 5S, with a case, and it would not hold very secure.

I tried it it worked like 90% well I would by two and put them in both middle vents with two strips on the iPad so it will look like you have a touch screen jejej (landscape mode) at least that's how I'd do it if not put it str8 down and have a tesla(electronic car) center panel in your car :)
