Q: Will this mount work if you have the cell phone case on (otter box defender)?
A: Yes. You have two options. 1. Put one of the provided magnets on the back of the otterbox case; which i have done. This is the most effective. 2. Put the magnet beneath the case. This also works, just not as effortlessly.
A: The cold air may make your phone a little sluggish (I have a Samsung Galaxy S7) I have yet to try with hot air. Tip: phone gains condensation when you live in a humid area with cold air hitting it and you go outside of your car!
A: I would just close the vent-- if you cannot do that then just pay attention.
Q: Do the magnets negatively effect the phone's compass and any other operations on the phone?
A: Have not noticed any issues. GPS is accurate.
Q: Will this fit toyota prius' vent?
A: Yes
Q: Will it hold an ipad air 2?
A: No. The magnets are not strong enough. The windshield mount might be though.
A: I tested the metal plates inside the case of my Otterbox Commuter with my Note 4, did not hold, luckily my case is rubber inside and polycarbonate shell outside, stuck it outside and holds it fine. No you cannot relocate the plates once mounted, I've read stories of people not being able to remove them from the backs of their phones.
