• I'm not sure about the outside speakers, but this remote does work with the Yamaha Receiver which comes in the Home Theater in a Box from Best Buy.

• It will work so long as you can see the receiver. It's not a wireless device in the sense that it uses wifi so you have to be within range of the IR receiver with nothing obstructing the view for it to be able to work.
