I believe one is rechargeable, just depends on what you want....and as far as I know you should have all your model numbers when you begin programming.

I did not have to put in any serial numbers, would some things work better if I did I don't know. But this does what I wanted so I'm good with the way I did it which was very simple. My guess is the higher number you get the more it can do & the more info you have to put in.
