Most likely, but the remote has to be pointed at the cable box. This is an infrared model, which means that it must see the sensor on the item you are trying to control. So, if you want to be able to control something in a different room, you will need a different model remote... and a cable box that is compatible with being controlled without line-of-sight remotes.
