Use the mobile phone app. There is a remote synching function and other troubleshooting steps. It is not a rechargeable remote. The battery is under the top bottom portion of the remote. It slides downward to remove the battery.

To do so, follow the setup instructions found here: https://support.myharmony.com/en-ca/companion. Also, the Companion Remote isn't rechargeable, it does have a CR2032 battery (small round battery) at the bottom of the remote, so simply push down the battery cover, and you'll be able to change the battery if need be.
