Wireless is needed if using Smartphone. I believe remote uses IR signal to communicate with the hub. The Hub is actually the part that controls all the electronics with remotes controlling Hub.

You can also setup using a Windows or Mac computer and supplied usb cable (I used phone app). The included remote uses RF to communicate with the HUB then the HUB uses IR and Bluetooth to control the devices accordingly.

Please try again later.From what I know, the remote sends a signal to the hub and the hub then sends out the proper IR and/or bluetooth signal to control the devices you are trying to operate. if you are using the app on your phone/tablet, you will need a to have the hub and phone/tablet connected to the same wifi for it to work. The package includes a remote, the main hub, and a mini IR blaster that can be connected to the main hub

The remote that is included uses RF, but the hub will send IR signals with the extender cable, so should be compatible with IR devices. Don't think it uses Bluetooth in any way.

The hub has wifi, Bluetooth, built in ir blaster, and 2 ports for additional ir blasters. 1 ir blaster is included in the box. A smartphone (iPhone or android) is required for setup.
