Yes you can. It is the number one feature I use for my mouse. Download the Logitech Options App if you haven't already. In the app you can customize literally any button to do whatever you want it to do. I have mine set to when I click the roller to the left it Copies and when I click it to the right it Paste. Works great for me.

I’ve paired this mouse with a Windows laptop, MacBook and Chromebook. The gestures software isn’t available for Chromebook yet, so you’d just be using this mouse to point and click. With a Windows laptop, I was able to add a copy & paste feature plus many more useful gestures, but for my MacBook, the available gestures are not the same. I loved this mouse with PC, but I currently cannot copy and paste and the only gestures I can use are more navigational. In my opinion, this mouse works best with Windows. Hope this helps someone!

If I understand your question correctly, you should not have to do any programming before hand.

no. the buttons are customizeable but only for navigation purposes only. You cannot assign a keyboard function to it.

Just highlight the text or data you want to copy - right click and select copy -- then take it to where you want it and right click again to paste.
