“In a couple of years when the batteries in the keyboard and mouse age and won't hold a charge for very long anymore, are they user replaceable? And if so are the batteries some ordinary model and size that can be purchased at a budget place like Walmart?”

Hi Samuel, the MX900 Combo has a 1 year limited warranty via the Logitech Warranty that can be used to have a replacement sent out to you in the event that the batteries on the mouse or keyboard begin to lose it's ability to fully charge. Hope that helps. -N from Logitech
