Hello Tarheel, unfortunately those speakers require more power than a USB port can output. The Z130 is designed to work with the separate power supply. I hope that helps.

Please try again later.No, the speakers require more than the maximum current (1A at 5V) available from a standard USB connection - that's why they are louder than USB-powered speakers. However, there are USB controllable AC switches that can be connected in series with the speakers' power cord if you simply want to turn on and off their power with the laptop's power switch. If you have the extra AC outlet and leave the speakers on, you can hardly hear the hum of the speakers, even at high volume, when they aren't being fed a signal.
