“While our desktop is hardwired to the Z407, can I Bluetooth in from my laptop too? We just bought this system because our understanding is it is suppose to do this. The hardwired desktop works beautifully, but I cannot get the laptop to Bluetooth in.”

You should be able to. I play music on my cell phone connected via Bluetooth to the speakers.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Have you set the speakers into Bluetooth mode? You do this by pressing the Bluetooth button on the bottom of the volume controller. I have flipped back and forth between my desktop and work laptop doing this. Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The speakers come with a wireless puck controller that is used to control the speakers. Underneath the puck there are two buttons, one of which changes the source input. Blue light on the puck is for bluetooth connections and white is for USB I believe. Unfortunately, you can’t play from two sources at once, but the puck is a handy tool to switch inputs, even if your PC is not on.
