“A friend of mine gave me the subwoofer only. Can I connect any speakers to it? I know that the speaker with the volume and power takes a special plug. Adapter maybe? Please help. Just want a good sounding system without putting too much $.”

The controller plug is proprietary, and uses a 9 pin serial connector. Any speaker with an RCA type Jack will work, as long as the impedance is correct, I'm guessing probably four ohns...

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you were able to find an adapter for the volume control, I don't see why you couldn't hook up other speakers, but I can't say definitely yes. The system is 150 Watts, so I'm thinking as long as you were working that range, you should be okay. But really, 60 bucks isn't a lot for a decent surround system.
