Yes, this system can be used for manual, motion, and scheduled recording. You can record to the included 8GB SD card and the system supports SD cards up to 64GB.

I had it on high and it recorded every time a car drove by. But I bought the biggest sd that I could find which was a 64 and it'll record for a week or more before I have to clear it.
