This question involves many variables. Even line of sight does not guarantee 499 feet. If you have another source operating at the same frequency you will have problems. If you are looking over metal the reflections off the metal can cause issues. If you are looking thru some form of material it all depends on the attenuation of the material and how much you are looking thru. Metal can cause a almost complete of signal. It is also very important to position the antenna correctly. The broad side of each should be pointed at the other. Example. This is how the antennas should look. [ ] not this _ _ . If they are pointing at each other you can get very high loss. Also try to keep the antennas away form close proximity to metal. This will result in detuning of the antenna and cause a loss of signal. Good luck
