Are you looking thru glass? That will cause you problems. If you really need the distance at night and want to be covert there are LED you can buy that provide lots of light that you can't see and that will significantly improve your range. There are two varieties. They operate at two different wavelengths. The one that is closer to visible light will have more of a visible glow than the other but you can see further with it because it is closer to the spectral bandwidth of the camera. They are used in deer trail cameras and work very well. Good luck.
