“Are the knobs and handle for water release self returning to off or will they remain at a set position until manually returned to off?”

For both knobs, they click into place, so for the water, you'll have to manually turn it off once you feel... adequate, haha.

they are manual and will stay on until you turn the dial off.

The knobs stay where you leave them. Important...because you'll want to make sure it's set properly if the last person to use it was your lady.

This is what I find bad about, what looks like, all these type of bidets - that they don't auto shutoff, i.e. they need a spring actuated knob that causes the knob to return to off when knob is released. I find this very poor that they do not make these with auto-shutoff - could lead to big problems with water damage.

You need to close the knobs manually.
