Per the specifications: 0.23x maximum magnification (35mm equivalent 0.46x); minimum focusing distance = 7.9" So, set to 42mm, at 7.9" from the subject you get a bit less than 1/2 life size. Certainly not a true macro lens, but not bad for a standard range zoom - as long as you can live with the 7.9" subject distance. This lens list also includes one of Olympus's 2 macro lenses, the 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens, with an even closer 3.7" minimum subject distance, but with up to 1.25x magnification, for $300 basic price ($270 today). Olympus also offers a 60mm macro, with a faster aperture and longer minimum subject distance - for considerably more money.
