Not entirely sure either, I asked the online chat service but they could not give me an answer either. Simply said, “looks like we don’t carry the 16gb version.” Not carrying the 16gb version is a huge miscalculation on Best Buy’s part, especially for college students. All engineering students NEED 16gb RAM.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It honestly doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense to me, but I feel like it probably has something to do with supply and statistical likelihood (or lack thereof) of that upgrade making a difference. While I myself always want that option, I can see how most people might just want more storage and not care for more RAM. There is also the possibility that Apple only allows these variations to be sold outside of official Apple stores. Perhaps it's the attitude of, "You want more? Go to Apple." These are just my theories.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to Apple video, this new chip negates the need for that much ram as the M1 chip is so much faster and more efficient. We will see.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Beginning in 2013, Apple began soldering their RAM to the motherboard on Macbook Pro 13 and 15 inch. Basically meaning if you have a MackBook Pro 2012 or older, you can install RAM yourself. However, if your MackBook Pro is 2013 and newer, you must order your desired RAM preinstalled. Hope this helps...
