R and Rstudio work fine for me on the MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM for data analysis. Some Monte Carlo simulations take a while to run, but if I'm in a hurry, I will borrow a computer lab and give a bunch of computers a slice of the program to run. I don't use SPSS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The RAM is very efficient in this laptop. Depending on how your previous laptop performed, you should probably get 16GB of ram. However, either way, you will be promised well performance. I can edit two rows of 4K footage in Final Cut Pro, without dropping much performance. As in, I can have a YouTube video running in the background just fine. Or, the fact that it doesn't take up much memory to edit the entire time. If you are exporting a lot of files that are large, or dealing with 3D modeling, (I am not that well educated on R Studio or such) you should probably upgrade. If you want to save a buck, 8GB of ram should be just fine.
