I have researched this a lot. ML can only speak to their speakers, not the avr. ML is biased and should not be trusted to answer regarding the avr. Consult your avr manual. If still unsure, ask the avr customer service. They will tell you the answer. (I did and was told not to use.) That being said, people allegedly mismatch speaker and avr impedance (ohm) without causing damage. If you do this, do not play at loud volumes though.

I had email exchanges with ML customer service about the 4 Ohm/8 Ohm issue. It was useless. They kept copying paragraphs from their useless "manual", adding no clarification to the issue. Actually I went ahead and powered it with a mono bridged amp with 8 Ohms. So, go ahead with your 8 Ohm receiver. Make it sure that the clips, connecting the inputs LEFT in place. Connect either the lower or upper connectors on the back of the speaker. I connected to the two upper one. This way the built in, undefeatable crossover will split the amp's frequences correctly. Good luck!

We hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other questions. We greatly appreciate your interest and your support.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the same question and asked Martin Logan. After more than a week their answer was BS, citing from their worthless manual, without answering this and other detailed questions during repeated emails. My own take on this is that if you bi-amplify, both inputs would present 4 Ohms. If you connect to only one amp, leaving the jumper clips in place, it would be 8 Ohms. I run it with a 4 Ohm Parasound stereo amp BUT mono bridged, which turned it into an 8 Ohm mono amp. The amp manual specifically states that in bridged mono the speaker should not be less than 8 Ohms, since the amp's output would be 8 Ohms! It runs the speaker beautifully as 8 Ohms! BTW probably the best center speaker you can have, before you go to the stratospheric priced electrostatic versions. I wonder how those can sound better? I have ML ESL speakers as the two main ones. I believe that if you have a single mono amp, it can be either 4 or 8 Ohms. My particular mono-bridged amp is asking for 8 Ohms, otherwise it would run hot.
