“When you use the soak cycle can you add oxyclean to the tray or the bottom of the drum to help remove stains? Or is there a better recommendation for heavy stained clothes.”

You can add detergent, oxy clean, pods powders etc, directly into the machine before adding clothes. Liquid detergents go in the dispenser. There is a setting for heavily soiled clothes. I would choose that cycle and use the oxy in the machine as stated above.
