“Consumer Reports rated this machine Fair/poor on "Gentleness." I am having second thoughts. How does the machine perform on a gentle or hand wash cycle? Does it tear up clothing and wear clothing out on regular cycles? This is my one hesitation....help”

Nah, it's fine. The cool thing is that you can adjust the agitator speed (it's referred to as "soil level" in the dial), which is what beats up the clothes. If you are super worried about the clothes, just put that setting on low. You have the ability to adjust temperature, spin speed, and agitator speed.

Buyer beware! This washer has torn multiple sheet sets. I own a VRBO and this machine has costs me hundreds in replacement bedding.
