I purchased this exact model,recently. Of course, I live in New Orleans, so they don't have as strict codes as you have there in California. According to the book which came with my gas range, it lists the California Prop 65 warnings regarding birth defects, and cancer. It is a wonderful stove, but if you or any of your family are in the age of reproduction, I would think again. Hope this helps.
