Yes. This washer “senses” the load (unlocked) and before starting, it locks. When the door is opened during the sensing process...the control panel lights up & flashes...the load will not begin until the start button is pushed again.

This Maytag Washer senses the load then locks before each & every cycle. If the lid is opened before locking occurs...the lights on the control panel flash until it is restarted, even if the lid is closed again.

This washer locks as soon as the cycle starts. Can only be unlocked by pressing the START/PAUSE button, and will not restart until the lid is closed and the START/PAUSE button is pressed again.

Fire, yes some models do have a child lock that will disable the control panel to prevent it from starting.
