The brakes are located by the back wheels. More easily operated by your feet than hands. Also more easily operated by the person pushing the wheel chair than the person in it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is a wheelchair for an individual to push someone from point a to point b. The individual pushing is the power for movement and stopping. There are stops for the wheel to to steady the wheelchair when getting someone in and out of the chair. This chair was designed primarily to be lightweight to carry to a doctor's visit, church, etc. to get someone in and out of a building. I do not think it is meant for outside use on various terrains and grades. I would choose a heavier duty chair for long walks outside.
