Hi, you don’t need to have 2 portals. You will be able to video call his portal using Facebook messenger on your phone and he will be able to do the same thru the portal. Once you turn it on you just put in his Facebook name and password and he will see a slide show of all his pics as well as any he gets tagged in and he will be able to video call anyone of his Facebook friends by just saying “portal call ...”

You just need one Portal, but you both need Facebook accounts and need to be “Friends.” I had to create Mom an account for the purpose. I call her using Facebook Messenger from my iPhone. It is voice controlled so she just has to say “Hey Portal Answer.” I wrote the instructions on a white board. Since you can’t visit the staff will have to set it up. They will need his Facebook account login info. It is also Alexa-enabled, but you can’t “drop in” like you can with the Amazon devices. The quality is good.
