The Link cable for Oculus Quest basically lets your Quest function as a PCVR headset when plugged into a gaming PC assuming it has the appropriate graphics card. This allows you to play Oculus games only made previously for the Rift & Rift S headsets and Steam VR games. Using the power of a gaming PC you can essentially play the higher end VR games not available on the Quest alone.

While Oculus has not claimed you will get a higher resolution by using this cable, it is possibly a future enhancement, as USB 2.0 cables are now allowed. The fiber connection will allow for the best possible data transfer speed and reliability from your PC provided you have the USB port 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2 from the mainboard or a similarly specced PCI-E add-on board. There are other cables that will meet the data and power requirements, however, this one is built specifically for the VR purpose and expects to be moved about thousands of times without failure or degradation. It also happens to be much lighter due to its fiber optic design than alternatives which can meet the same data and charging rates.

This is the cable to buy if you have the proper PC and USB requirements met for a trouble-free experience. If you value that over your time, this is for you. The Oculus link cable as of right now is used for "oculus link" which is a beta that allows you to play from an oculus quest onto a pc with the correct specs. This cable also as of right now is the only one that works with the ongoing beta oculus link.
