In the box you get the headset, a charger, two controllers, and a "glasses spacer" to help if you need to wear glasses while using the headset. If you want to play computer-based VR games through the Quest 2, you will need additional software or hardware. You can either purchase software to make this work wirelessly (a Google search will tell you all you need to know on how to do this), or you can buy a USB-C cable to connect the Quest 2 to your computer (of course, your computer must support USB-C for this to work). Oculus has its own USB-C cable called the Link (expensive but good), but Google can also point you to lower-priced options.

- Answer I was able to use my Quest (NOT THE QUEST 2, hasnt arrived yet to test) with a third party usb-cable just fine, but did purhcase the Oculus one here bc its longer and will definitely work. Most of the third party cables that work are only 10ft or less. Keep in mind the link cable is just so you can play wired PC Oculus games, you can be totally wireless playing any native Quest game. Hope that helps.

- Answer There are two ways you could do this. The first would be to send display output directly from your computer that you are linked to to the TV. The other option is to cast to a chromecast attached to the tv.

- Answer I was told they are the same. But I think the way the cable clips to the headset may be a little different. The first cable had a hard plastic clip. The new cable comes with a more of a velcro strap to my understanding. But Oculus told me they were the same cable when I contacted their support a couple of weeks ago.

- Answer No this is a fiber optic USB 3.2 cable in addition to dedicated power lines to support the 3A @5V required to charge the quest while providing the highest speed, lowest latency connection offered by any cable for this purpose. It's not a simply 16-foot charging cable.

- Answer The wire does 2 essential things, A. Charges the headset & B. Enables "Oculus Link" which enables the Rift S library from your PC, as-well Steam VR Library from your pc. If you plan on buying your son a VR for primarily PC, I would skip buying this wire & and a quest 2 and decide to get the Rift S, but if you prefer the option to be able to wirelessly play, or play without a computer; then i would recommend this wire, because the battery life isn't the greatest on the quest 2. The Quest 2 takes 2.5 hours to charge from 0% to 100% The Rift S is not mobile.

- Answer Its a USB Type C on both ends for this particular cable. You would want a standard USB to Type C cable. The data transfer will be lower not being a 3.0 but it will work just fine.
