“Where would that separate red wire even go to? There isn’t anywhere to attach it to a radio and what 12v place would it go? It doesn’t make any sense?”

You connect it to the red wire on the aftermarket stero then run it to the fuse box. You'll connect the other end to a fuse that turns on and off with the ignition. There should be an adapter that comes with it that allows you to connect it to the fuse.
