“Is it a mandatory to buy this harness? I had a Sony stereo installed in my 2016 Dodge Grand caravan and a 10 " kicker sub directly to the rear speaker. I just want to change out the rear speakers with the kicker 6x9 i just bought”

No. It is not necessary, but it makes the job 10 times easier. Without the harness, you end up having to splice the wires. From there you have to make sure you match positive with the positive and the negative with the negative. Unfortunately, the wire colors are not straightforward being red and black.
