Hello, Surface RT comes with Windows Defender. Since it will not run or install apps or programs outside of the Store, it does not need anything more. Best regards

It is not necessary, however it is always nice to have extra security. Plus, it currently comes with a 6 month subscription to the current Webroot anti-virus and security software, so you can try it out and if it's not to your liking you can decide if you want it or not.
