“Can I run iTunes off an external USB device? I house my iTunes and accompanying library on an external hard drive. When connected via USB to the Surface, will I be able to run iTunes as if it were on a desktop PC?”

• No, iTunes is only available on the Surface Pro.

• As others mentioned, Windows RT can't run iTunes-you need a full Windows 8 tablet like Surface Pro to do that, BUT it'll probably let you play most iTunes CONTENT, like unDRMed music files and the like should play on Windows RT from an external drive (or copied on to the device). Also technically Apple could release a version of iTunes for the WIndows store, they just probably won't.
