I don't see why not but you should upgrade to Windows 10 Home (instead of Windows 10 S that it comes with). The upgrade is free in the store and it will operate like any Windows 10 computer at that point (Windows 10 S locks you to using Store approved applications only). If the keyboard is wired, one thing to note is that there is no USB A type connector. I bought a separate USB C hub that I can connect a keyboard and mouse (I have a mechanical kb and fancy mouse that still are wired). You could also potentially connect any Bluetooth keyboard and mouse as well. All that said, you may want to look at getting a good small laptop. The reason I say this is simply because you are replacing an existing laptop. I use my Surface Go primarily as a tablet and a "PC" as a secondary function. It's not that it's a bad PC but there are tradeoffs like the much smaller screen. If you were comparing to an iPad, I'd say get this for the flexibility but to replace a laptop that likely had a much bigger screen may be a stretch. There are plenty of good laptops in the $400 - $500 range that this would cost. The biggest gain with the Surface Go/Pro is the portability and flexibility.
