For an all around general system, yes. However if required for more specialized tasks, I would recommend upgrading to an actual notebook or laptop. The surface will cover all your basics easily and offer more than enough power and versatility to be the classroom sidekick and study partner while still providing the tunes to keep you sane. Beyond that sidekick role, though, this particular surface lacks the raw power or storage to tackle more robust projects.

So far am very pleased with the unit although the battery life is not as good as advertised. As an owner of a couple of other laptop computers I wanted something a little smaller for travel and could not decide on replacing my older IPad or going with another smaller laptop, I found this to be a good alternative.
