• 8GB will get you through most things people do (internet browsing, playing music or videos, Office programs), as long as you don't have too many windows open simultaneously, but more is always better.

• Mine says 174 mb is hardware reserved. Task Manager shows about 7.8 gb usable, and I /think/ background processes use around 3.0-3.1 gb of RAM (after having been on for a while)
