There is a website out there somewhere that shows the max refresh rate at various resolutions and if you have 1 or 2 external displays. I did have to use mini-display port to display port to get the 60 hertz. I don't think laptops with HDMI can carry 4k @ 60 hertz, or at least I couldn't figure it out and my monitor supports HDMI 4k @ 60 hertz.
